Snail Mail Marketing

// March 1st, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Article, Blog, Branding, Featured Articles

Published in the Small Business section of the January 12th edition of the WSJ was an article on Snail Mail Marketing. Most of us with marketing degrees that graduated after 2001 would probably just pass this article up, “Snail Mail” is a very cliche (often dirty) word in today’s world of Digital Media Marketing. The term “Snail Mail” refers to the (sometimes costly) production of marketing materials sent via regular mail to thousands (or millions) of households.

// February 5th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Article, Branding, Featured Articles, Marketing, Packaging

Info-graphics are taking off…LITERALLY! This Kulula Airplane got re-branded with some descriptive facts, 101 to be exact. This graphic was created by Kulula’s very own creative team and shares various information about its planes with those on board. FYI the captain is called a “The Big Cheese” the black box is under 42D and the “secret agent code” is OK-PIK. Flying 101 is very useful. Check out more parts of the Kulula craft after the jump.

“Kindle Prepare to Die” – iPad

// January 27th, 2010 // No Comments » // Article, Blog, Branding, Entertainment, Featured Articles, Gear, Tech

Well after years of speculation, mystery, rumors, gossip, trademarks, false domain registry and consumer brouhaha the Apple i…i…iPad is here! What, the heck? The iPad?!?! Oh well I guess we will just have to get over that one. This little plastic, chrome and glass device is going to change the world one more time and its not going to take years like the iPod. I could talk about features and functionality until my fingers are bleeding and your eyes develop cataracts but lets save us all time and pain with the official Apple iPad video(HD of course!). See the video and more photos after the jump.

…a look back and a peek at London 2012.

The Olympics are just around the corner so we thought we would share with our readers the past 10 years in Olympic Logo Design. It is very interesting to see how design styles have changed over the last decade and how each country uses color, style and typography in their designs. If you’d like to read more on Olympic design check out our posting of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Medal Design. Check them out after the jump.

I love geography, primarily maps, old maps, new maps, hand drawn maps, Google maps and even treasure…I enjoy them all. This illustration is a 3D isometric illustration of my home town – San Jose, CA. I created this map on behalf of a client to be used in a video introduction for his business. Have an idea of the next map location I should create? Just post a comment below.

// December 17th, 2009 // No Comments » // Branding, Featured Articles, Marketing, Packaging

I browse hundreds of designs every week and these 9 made the cut for the “Top 9 of 2009″. Most are printed on eco-friendly materials, all are highly recyclable which was a key factor in them making the cut. Packaging has evolved over the years from one size fits all to a highly customizable industry. These products were designed with Brand in mind, some might one day be recognized by shape alone. Check out these designs, who knows maybe you’ll get some inspiration.

What the What?

// December 11th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Branding, Cool Site, Featured Articles

Ever wonder why companies update their logo every couple of years? Moreover, why do companies spend millions of dollars on their image and brand just to re-brand a few years down the road? While most of us just ignore the changes in color, font an even logo-marks one website stops and asks the question “Why?”. The below brands are from one of my favorite sites, Brand New. This site contrasts the differences in re-design similar to the before and after picture one would see in a weight loss infomercial at 2AM.

Facebook Marketing: Ikea

// December 11th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Branding, Featured Articles, Marketing

When IKEA (A Swedish Furnature Company) decided to open up a new store in Malmo, Sweden IKEA’s ad agency [Forsman & Bodenfors] created a Facebook page for store manager Gordon Gustavsson to help generate buzz for this new location. Utilizing photos of IKEA showrooms Gordon’s Facebook page asked people to tag themselves on different items in the photos, once tagged, the individual won that particular item. Word spread fast of this tagging giveaway and generated web traffic to Gordon’s Facebook page and eventually the store. This unique approach to marketing utilized a free marketing channel and cost significantly less than a typical radio, tv and print advertising campaign. What a great idea! See the video after the jump!
