info-graphics are taking off

// February 5th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // Article, Branding, Featured Articles, Marketing, Packaging

Info-graphics are taking off…LITERALLY! This Kulula Airplane got re-branded with some descriptive facts, 101 to be exact. This graphic was created by Kulula’s very own creative team and shares various information about its planes with those on board. FYI the captain is called a “The Big Cheese” the black box is under 42D and the “secret agent code” is OK-PIK. Flying 101 is very useful. Check out more parts of the Kulula craft after the jump.

Top 9 Package Designs of 2009

// December 17th, 2009 // No Comments » // Branding, Featured Articles, Marketing, Packaging

I browse hundreds of designs every week and these 9 made the cut for the “Top 9 of 2009″. Most are printed on eco-friendly materials, all are highly recyclable which was a key factor in them making the cut. Packaging has evolved over the years from one size fits all to a highly customizable industry. These products were designed with Brand in mind, some might one day be recognized by shape alone. Check out these designs, who knows maybe you’ll get some inspiration.

Facebook Marketing: Ikea

// December 11th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Branding, Featured Articles, Marketing

When IKEA (A Swedish Furnature Company) decided to open up a new store in Malmo, Sweden IKEA’s ad agency [Forsman & Bodenfors] created a Facebook page for store manager Gordon Gustavsson to help generate buzz for this new location. Utilizing photos of IKEA showrooms Gordon’s Facebook page asked people to tag themselves on different items in the photos, once tagged, the individual won that particular item. Word spread fast of this tagging giveaway and generated web traffic to Gordon’s Facebook page and eventually the store. This unique approach to marketing utilized a free marketing channel and cost significantly less than a typical radio, tv and print advertising campaign. What a great idea! See the video after the jump!

Timberland “Delirium” Ad

// October 12th, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog, Marketing

We are seeing more and more elaborate advertisements these days that look like short motion pictures than 30 second informative spots. This new delirium ad from Timberland promotes its new Earthkeepers Boat Shoe and other eco-friendly line of products. The copy from the ad reads:

“I was adrift for 47 days.
Accompanied only by despair, and my delirium,
One day I thought my Ex-Girlfriend was coming to save me,
and then somehow I was in Venice,
I thought even a sea monster was following me,
and I even believed my daughter had come to take me home,
But in reality the wind came and blew me into the shipping lanes,
so it was nature that saved me.”

I prefer these modern ads to more traditional television spots, they are more creative and entertaining than say Billy Mays selling Oxiclean. What do you think? Would you like to see more ads like this on TV? [LikeCool]

Starbucks VIA Ready Brew Taste Challenge

// October 1st, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Blog, Marketing

I visit Starbucks just about two times a day (it’s right next to my office) for a tall cup of black drip coffee ($1.55) which I then add enormous amounts of milk and sugar to. I would say that half of the reason I get up from my desk is for a much needed break and to stretch my legs rather than coke head like addiction to coffee or a caffeine craving. But now Starbucks, in all their infinite wisdom wants me to microwave a cup of tap water and drop in some instant Starbucks coffee granules forever ruining my 10 minute Starbucks break in exchange for a walk down the hall to our office kitchen. Not going to happen Starbucks.

Anyways this is your chance to taste the latest Starbucks concoction VIA Ready Brew. Just visit any Starbucks for your own taste test from October 2-5.

Logo Design For AEIS

// August 25th, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog, Branding, Featured Articles, Marketing

AEIS is a small insurance company in San Mateo, California. AEIS specialize in employee benefits insurance products. I recently designed this logo for AEIS’ new branding materials (I’ll post these once they have been printed). The logo is professional, crisp, clean yet bright and cheerful. AEIS also had me design the following pieces: letterhead, presentation folder, gatefold brochure, business cards, #10 envelope and notepads.
