What to get the nerd in your life?

// December 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // Featured Articles, Gear

If you have a nerdy boyfriend who is obsessed with the Star Wars saga and they might just “need” a pair of these for Christmas. I’m not sure George Lucas walks around his Skywalker Ranch in a pair of these but I’m sure you can sport them at home (please don’t wear these outside!) For the complete collection visit Kicks on Fire.

Guys Christmas List Selection #1

// November 12th, 2009 // 4 Comments » // Featured Articles

Activisions Modern Warfare 2 has only been out for two days now and everyone has gone stock raving mad over the game! I only have 7 friends on Xbox live (its quality not quantity) and every time I sign online there they are playing MW2 sometimes til 4AM! So naturally my first pick would be some Xbox MW2 paraphernalia that would make my junkie friends loose it! Nothing was difficult about selecting this Mad Catz Modern Warfare 2 Throat Mic and Controller (in Digital Camo) for $30 and $50, respectively. [Thanks Giz for the heads up!]

Microsoft Courier’s User Interface

// November 4th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Featured Articles, Gear

Fresh from Gizmodo are these graphics of the much anticipated Microsoft Courier Booklet and its User Interface. Tap and hold, one finger flick, two finger flick and a bunch of other hand motions that my parents will never be able to do successfully. While these graphics help us gain some understanding of how we will interact with the booklet I still cant wait to get my hands on one. View all the images at Gizmodo.com.

Apple’s Magic Mouse

// October 21st, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog, Gear, Tech

The Apple store was down yesterday morning which means only one thing…new products. Apple unveiled its new Magic Mouse set to replace the current Apple Mighty Mouse. New Features of this Apple classic include: laser tracking, multi-touch surface, on/off switch and better blue tooth connectivity strength (33 ft). Here is part of the Gizmodo hands-on review.

Is this the best mouse Apple has ever made? Yeah, it is. The Magic Mouse is much better than the Mighty Mouse, which people hated, and might actually be good enough that non-Mac users might want to pick it up as well, supposing that they don’t really care about ergonomics. Since it fills the gap between a tiny travel mouse and a full sized desktop mouse, the Magic is in a good position to grab users on both ends.

Timberland “Delirium” Ad

// October 12th, 2009 // No Comments » // Blog, Marketing

We are seeing more and more elaborate advertisements these days that look like short motion pictures than 30 second informative spots. This new delirium ad from Timberland promotes its new Earthkeepers Boat Shoe and other eco-friendly line of products. The copy from the ad reads:

“I was adrift for 47 days.
Accompanied only by despair, and my delirium,
One day I thought my Ex-Girlfriend was coming to save me,
and then somehow I was in Venice,
I thought even a sea monster was following me,
and I even believed my daughter had come to take me home,
But in reality the wind came and blew me into the shipping lanes,
so it was nature that saved me.”

I prefer these modern ads to more traditional television spots, they are more creative and entertaining than say Billy Mays selling Oxiclean. What do you think? Would you like to see more ads like this on TV? [LikeCool]

Star Wars: Tauntaun Sleeping Bag

// October 10th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Blog, Gear

[WEEKENDPOST] This could be the coolest sleeping bag idea I have ever seen. I wish I had one of these for sleepovers as a kid. ThinkGeek has created a Tauntaun sleeping bag! Check out the description:

In the sub-zero wasteland of the planet Hoth, only the strong survive… and of course those lucky Jedi protected by the thick skin of a Tauntaun. Now after exhaustive movie viewing research and analysis ThinkGeek Labs has isolated the exact synthetic compounds needed to re-create Tauntaun fur. What have we done with this supreme knowledge? Created a Tauntaun sleeping bag of course.

The bags should be available in early November for $99, just in time for my Christmas list. [ThinkGeek]

The Value of a Helmet

// September 22nd, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Blog, Gear, Tech

I learned last night(the hard way) that a helmet might come in handy especially when your head decides its wants to take a swan dive into the frozen tundra of an ice skating rink. Knowing what I know now I should have been wearing some type of protective gear to shield myself in case of a head-ice collision. Now that I have done my research I will probably be picking up one of these Bauer 9500 Helmets. The main selling point for me is the impact absorption (duh!), I mean it is a helmet after all and that should be a key component in your decision making process. The Bauer 9500 transmits 20% less energy versus a traditional helmet with its new FXPP foam liner. You can pick one up at Amazon for just $99.00, heck you might as well buy two.
